Learning a New Language: Arabic

العربية

One of my goals for this year was to learn a new language, and while there are obviously hundreds of different variations to choose from, the one I chose was Arabic.

Although you’re probably thinking “Of all languages to choose from… why Arabic?!” and while it’s certainly a difficult language to pick up coming from someone whose native language is English, I’m actually having a lot of fun along the way. It took me nearly two months just to learn the alphabet and learn how to pronounce each letter, but being able to converse with others makes it all the worthwhile.

Despite the fact that Spanish is considered the dominant language (aside from English) throughout most of the United States, I actually have a lot of friends who speak Arabic quite fluently, so getting help from them has been extremely easy.

So with that being said, if there’s anybody here who speaks Arabic feel free to chime in, as I look forward to absorbing as much information about the language as I can.
